Solar Power System for Off-Shore Platform

Name & Location of Customer

Customer – Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited

Location – Mumbai High Field

Overview

Offshore platforms that pump oil and gas under the sea are unmanned and need to be remotely monitored. It becomes vital then, for the power system to be highly reliable, long lasting, well engineered and capable of operating in a vast spread of conditions. The solar power systems designed, manufactured, supplied, installed, and commissioned by Tata BP Solar meets all these requirements successfully. The Solar PV Systems are mounted on the helideck of 9WPP. On the interconnecting bridge, there are 3 connected systems, of 4WPP.

Process Deployed

The solar power generation system used on the ONGC wellhead offshore platforms powers telemetry, gas detection, lighting and navigational aid systems. The system comprises of solar modules for hazardous area application, an explosion proof junction box, a battery bank, a nav-aid lantern, marine-grade structures with special coating for PV modules and fire-survival cables.

Large Commercial Projects

Conventional energy is finite and fast depleting. On the other hand, the demand for energy is rising exponentially. Extensive use of solar energy is the only way to address this dichotomy. We all know that more energy hits the earth from the sun in one hour than the whole world uses all year. Yet only a fraction of it is harnessed. Now imagine if every household or institution sets up its own power generating station to capture the infinite and abundant energy of the sun! Not only would they be successful in meeting their own power requirements but they would actually have excess power that they could 'sell' back to the grid!

Tata BP Solar's 'On To Grid' strategy promises to make millions of Indians energy-independent. Not only will they be able to generate their energy on their rooftops or backyards, they will actually be getting their power on-site at a competitive rate! Our 1 MW Solar Power Plant in Delhi and a 3 MW Solar Power Plant in Maharashtra are a precursor to the exciting possibilities we have in store to energise India. Projects of such magnitude are also coming up in Orissa, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu.
